As the winter season draws to a close, and we head into spring and summer, women around the world take a look at their closets and wonder what is missing from their wardrobe. We want clothes that fit well and can show off our best assets, and we don’t want to spend a fortune doing so. Is this possible?
From season to season we should take a moment to re-evaluate what is in our closets, donate what doesn’t work and focus on what does. We want something new, but often times a classic piece that fits well can look great from year to year. Ultimately most women return to their staples—slacks that fit well, a tailored top and shoes that are comfortable and stylish.
So, how do you renew your wardrobe from season to season?
Tailor Off The Rack Deals- It’s rare that clothes will fit perfectly off the sales rack. To make your clothing appear more luxurious, have your clothing fitted by a tailor. This can be one way inexpensive clothes can look like a million dollars.
Invest In A Great Suit– Spend money on a great suit that can be matched with a number of tops and accessories. A cotton suit can feel crisp without being suffocating. Work in lighter colors such as light blue, white, cream, or various shades of pastels that feel and look lightweight. An A-line skirt can paired with a matching jacket for a spring appearance.
Brighter Colors Make A Statement– Bold colors can make you stand out in a room. The trick to pulling off brighter colors is wear them in moderation. Pair a bright top with a neutral skirt or pant. Work a lighter colored slim pant with a canary yellow top and deep green jewelry accessories. A bright dress can be matched up with nude skinny belt, and heels.
Invest In A Few Fashionable Basics– Have a few great pieces that you can dress up or down. Wide leg trousers, pencil skirts, a simple black dress, a pair of dark jeans and white blouses should be pieces that every woman has in her closet.
When shopping for the season, look for the most essential pieces like a coat for the winter, or a cotton skirt for the summer. Great flat closed toe shoes that you can wear comfortably with a pant suit, and a pair of heels that don’t break your back walking in. An unlined suit is a great investment for the summer. Buy a few stand out pieces this season like a pair of heels, a flashy necklace, or colorful scarf.
Be Careful Buying Capris- Tailored capris can show off our legs, but depending on your height, capri pants can make you appear stumpy in an unflattering way. If you’re on the shorter side, ankle-length pants can make you appear even shorter. Stick to full-length trousers that show good proportion between top and bottom.
Accessorize With Heels That Get Noticed- Wearing a stylish shoe can make your whole outfit look so much more expensive. Don’t sacrifice style when you can slip in a pair of insoles. Cut out heels, straps, bold color and metal accents can really add a designer touch to a heel. Closed toe booties can dress up a pair of slacks, and strappy heels can work with skirts and shorts for the spring.
Showing Off Skin Can Make You Feel Youthful- Don’t be afraid to show a little skin. If you have great legs, work with a pencil skirt and a pair of heels to show off those lower legs. Strike a perfect balance between sexy and classic taste by not going overboard. If you have great arms, look for a sleeveless dress, but don’t go too short on the bottom. Be careful with wearing skirts too short, or necklines that plunge too low. Balance out a pair of shorter shorts with a long sleeve top for the summer. Keep it classy by counter balancing your bottoms with your tops to ensure you are not showing too much skin.
