Jean-Charles de Castelbajac Tartan Combination
Mixing in pattern with your tried-and-true solid favorites is a way to make your wardrobe so much more interesting. From leggings, to belts to skirts, tops, and dresses – choosing something with pattern and texture can really bring out a different side of your personality.
Here are two ways you can incorporate it into your wardrobe:
1. Combine TWO Or More Patterns Within The Same Outfit
A fashion designers best kept secret is simply introducing two patterns into an outfit. This little trick looks chic. The key to combining two patterns in one outfit, is to work with the same color palette.
Consider working with a dominant pattern such as a bold floral or larger geometric pattern, that you can combine with something more simplistic such as a pin stripe, gingham check or polka dot pattern. By working two patterns together, your supporting pattern will prevent the look from becoming to overpowering.
2. Work Animal Prints In With Other Patterns
Think about picking up a few accessories that have an animal print texture. Animal prints can be the easiest way of working with existing pattern and can be used as a way of adding detail and intrigue into an outfit.
Think about a handbags with a snakeskin print or leopard printed heels, tortoise shell printed bracelets, and scarves. We typically think of accessorizing with jewelry and sunglasses, however, don’t forget belts, umbrellas, bags and hats to pull off a unique look. A felt hat can be a head turner.
If are unsure of how to pull of bolder patterns, start small and work your way up. Work with smaller accessories, and venture later into patterned slacks and coats.
Floral patterns, stripes and abstract prints can add a lot to the personality of your outfit. Don’t be afraid of mixing different elements together. A little risk can go a long way!
