Wood shelving was a common element seen in primitive styled kitchens, especially above the stove, and sink areas. Exposed shelving allowed dishes, and tableware to be shown off in a decorative way.
One of the prettiest examples is the shelving located at Le Moulin Bregeon, in France. Here you see above a rectangular wall shelf with 10 cubby spaces to hold dishes and bowls. Above the shelf, houses over-sized ironstone pieces, and a slight curve to the bottom, gives the shelf a softer feel.
If you are looking for a way to add a historical touch to your home, consider wood shelving which could be placed above a chest in a bedroom, in the bathroom, and in the kitchen areas.
